Hello,
We have Oracle 8.1.5.1 running on SUN Solaris 2.6 and we have to upgrade to
8.1.7. I have downloaded the Upgrade manual from Metalink and am struggling
through it to come up with a list of steps to follow to complete the upgrade. I
don't have a lot of time to prepare this. So I would really appreciate it if
someone, who has already gone through this situation, please post a thorough,
step by step procedure to successfully complete the upgrade process. Thanks much
in advance.

I wrote the attached procedure to upgrade a database from 805 to
816 but it should work for 815 to 817. Just substitute 816 for 805 & 817 for
816.

Is it OK to use the utility "odma" to upgrade from 8.1.5
to 8.1.7?

I guess you could but the Migration Assistant is usually used to
"migrate" from one release (7.x) to another (8.x). I believe going
from 8.1.5 to 8.1.7 is considered an "upgrade". I've had some pretty
bad experiences with the Migration Assistant so I try not to use it if at all
possible.

Yes, you can use the ODMA utility to perform your upgrade. But personally, I'd
use the $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/u0801050.sql script in the new Oracle Home. (I
hate wizards!!!!)
